About The Project:

This was a redevelopment of New College Nottingham’s Basford Hall Campus to provide new state-of-the-art teaching facilities.

The project included a new teaching building for skills and training in the construction sector, a new incubation centre for start-up businesses focused on sustainable construction, a mix of hard and soft landscaping and public realm works.

The building structure is a steel frame solution which is clad with a mixture of masonry, rain screen, aluminium and render claddings. Expanses of curtain walling, roof lights and windows provide natural daylight into the buildings. The use of photovoltaic collectors on the roof and rainwater harvesting tanks adds to the environmental efficiency of the buildings.

Training workshops within the building are specifically designed for students to practice brickwork, plastering, wood trades, painting and decorating, plumbing installation, fabrication and welding, electrical installation, refrigeration and gas services. There are also laboratories and workshops for science based and animal care studies.
